About Laura singer
Hello! I’m so glad you’re here. Here is some information about my background and philosophy to get to know me better.
Starting off on a personal note, after years of feeling like I had to be or feel a certain way in order to be accepted, it is one of my greatest joys to acknowledge and welcome you AS YOU ARE. I hope to get to meet you!
I’ve been teaching yoga for 14 years. My utmost priority is your well-being, and my intention is to provide opportunities for you to experience a loving foundation within yourself and within community.
My training includes:
500-hour training with YogaWorks
E-RYT 500 Yoga Alliance registered
50-hour Aerial Dance & Fitness Certification through The Aerial Studio
Reiki Level 2 training with the Usui method
NASM Personal Training certification
From 2005 through 2013 I was a Coordinator, Manager and then the Director of Teacher Training Partnerships for YogaWorks Teacher Training around the world.
A student recently asked me why I’m a teacher of yoga. Here is my reply:
This is an ever-evolving answer. But in this moment I'll say that when I notice space within and feel content with what I am doing in this moment, I feel at peace. From this mental space I have a greater capacity to handle whatever comes my way with compassion and ease. This is what I've found to be one of the greatest gifts of yoga. It is my joy to facilitate people through their own experience of accessing contentment.
On the physical plane, I also recognize how over time, unhealthy positions can lead to injury. Quite often, the combination of stress and lack of awareness torque our bodies into these injurious positions in our daily life. Our bodies are always attempting to heal, but stress and injurious positions block that. When we come home to ourselves through our awareness, alertness and releasing of tension, we allow our body and mind the space to heal and then thrive.
The practice of yoga goes hand in hand with trust, to me. When we are feeling untrustworthy of what's around us, like the world is out to get us, we’re comparing ourselves to others or we just want it to be done without paying attention, our nervous system reflects that. This shows up in our yoga practice with shallow breathing and constricted, forced movements, and of course it shows up in our life in the same way.
Conversely, when we start… anything (yoga, eating, driving, making a decision) from a loving foundation, feeling safe to expand, our breathing deepens and we make decisions from a place of wellbeing.
It is my honor to facilitate safe experiences for people to discover the loving foundation within that is always available.
After living in New York, Seattle and Los Angeles, I am happy to have put down roots in Ventura, CA. Here, I offer select public and private yoga classes in Ventura’s great outdoors, and virtually.
